Many readers come to me in need of a part-time night job from home. Maybe you are a stay-at-home mom tending to busy kids during the day. Maybe you have a full-time job outside of the home and are looking for some supplemental income. Maybe you are looking to finally start working with your internal night owl clock instead of against it!
The good news is most people who work from home have unique scheduling needs. Many companies are accustomed to this and may even expect it. Some companies may have unique scheduling requirements of their own that may work for you!
Are things looking up?
If you have some spare time in the evenings or overnight hours, a computer, and a reliable internet connection, you can. Below are seven different companies looking for remote employees or independent contractors to work during the evening or night-time hours.
Before applying, make sure you read all the specifications. Some of these companies require training, which isn’t always available at night. You don’t want to jump through all the hoops to land a new job, only to discover you aren’t available when you’re needed.
1. Alorica at Home — Customer Service Representative
Are you a great listener who can provide excellent customer service? A part-time position with Alorica at Home could be a good fit. You will provide remote customer service for a variety of companies.
You will need a computer with speakers or a headset, and a reliable internet connection. Your home office will also need a feature-free POTS (plain old telephone service) landline.
These positions are highly flexible since you sign up for work in 30-minute increments. This means you can schedule your work when it fits for you. You must be available at least ten hours per week for a part-time position, though, so there is some commitment involved.
2. VIPKID — English Language Teacher
You can earn between $14 and $22 an hour teaching English to children in China. With VIPKID, you teach students one on one, in a virtual classroom. The lessons are prepared for you, though it’s recommended you create your own props to help keep students engaged in the lessons.
VIPKID only hires applicants with a bachelor’s degree, so make sure you meet that requirement. You will also need a reliable internet connection, a camera, and a headset. A video interview is required and will determine your acceptance and base fee. But, you can do this! Relax and have fun.
This is one of those companies with unique scheduling of its own. Your work hours are flexible, as you’re able to indicate when you can and cannot accept students. However, keep in mind that China is 11 hours ahead of the Eastern United States. The hours available will be those in which those children are awake. That means very early weekday mornings with evening and overnight hours needed on the weekends.

3. Appen — Social Media Evaluator
Do you wish you could convert some of your time on social media into a paying gig? With Appen, you can! As a social media evaluator, you get to provide feedback on social media feeds and search results. Your opinions can help shape the marketing for companies.
This position is a great fit for people who want a flexible work opportunity, who are engaged users of social media. You must be able to work independently and have a sound card with speakers. Alternatively, you can use a smartphone that is less than three years old.

4. 3 Play Media — Transcriptionist/Editor
3 Play Media frequently hires contract transcriptionists and editors for flexible, remote transcription work. This work requires candidates to have excellent communication skills and a solid command of the English language. You must pass a series of proficiency tests before you can begin.
Being familiar with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications is a desired qualification. Your computer must have a high-speed, reliable internet connection.
Transcriptionists/editors earn equivalent to between $10 and $30 an hour, on a project-based basis. Your experience and skill level will determine the amount you earn. In addition to English transcriptionists, 3 Play Media is also hiring Spanish transcriptionists.

5. Fancy Hands — Virtual Assistant
Do you have the skills needed to provide virtual assistance to a variety of clients? Put those skills to work with Fancy Hands. Fancy Hands hires contractors, who are able to work whenever they are available. The company desire to have assistants ready to help clients 24 hours a day, which means nighttime hours are definitely possible.
As a virtual assistant, you will complete a variety of tasks. Clients need help making phone calls, completing data entry, scheduling appointments, and completing research tasks among other things. You will get paid between $3-$7 for each task completed. You’ll be paid every other week via Dwolla.

6. Advanis — Call Center Telephone Research Interviewer
Advanis is looking for telephone research interviewers. They operate between 5 pm to 12 am EST Monday through Friday and 12-7 pm on Saturday. Within those operating hours, they offer flexible scheduling.
To succeed in this position, you’ll need to have great communication and customer service skills, be able to type 30 wpm and have a quiet home office. You will need a separate landline, with a headset, and a computer with high-speed internet.

7. NexRep — Outbound Sales
NexRep has openings for Outbound Sales positions. These are currently paying $15 to more than $25 per hour.
You do not need a landline for this position as calls are routed through your computer. Hours are available 7 days per week from 9am to 11pm EST. You do need to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week.
You must have a quiet home office, with no background noises or voices from pets, children, or anything else. Reliable internet connection is also a necessity.
