So, what are the requirements for working at Amazon?
Most entry-level jobs at Amazon do not require a GED or high school diploma for a typical job listing, however, they often require you to be 18 years of age. Some higher-level positions require a college degree and prior experience, but Amazon is always very explicit about the requirements for their job openings.
Anyone interested in working for Amazon should visit their careers page for a complete listing of all open Amazon jobs. Job seekers can find what kind of positions are currently available and the requirements of each position. Depending on the position, a driver’s license or being over the age of 18 may be the only major requirements. In Amazon warehouse positions, warehouse associates must be able to lift up to 49 pounds, push utility carts up to 60 pounds, stand/walk/push/pull/squat/bend/reach during shifts, use carts and dollies, go up and down stairs, work at a height of up to 40 feet on a mezzanine, and adhere to the safety requirements and quality production standards. A warehouse team member position is considered an entry-level job and does not require a high school diploma.

What’s the process?
The education verification process at Amazon varies from job to job. It isn’t likely that Amazon HR will make a call to verify you graduated high school for a fulfillment associate position. However, if you have stated that your educational journey has included a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree and you are applying for corporate-level positions, that information will likely be verified.

Does Amazon offer educational advancement opportunities?
Amazon’s Career Choice program offers employees the opportunity for advancement through partnerships with hundreds of Amazon-approved schools across 14 countries. In this program, Amazon employees are able to learn new skills in the pathways program, foundational skills (English language programs, etc.), and college credit programs. College credit programs help employees earn the prerequisites required for a degree.
The program is available for full-time, eligible employees, and Amazon will pay up to 95 percent of tuition and fees. There are a variety of education opportunities, including industry certifications. Amazon states on its website, “The Amazon Career Choice Program provides associates with a resource for building the job skills needed for today’s most in-demand and well-paying careers, such as aircraft mechanics, computer-aided design, machine tool technology, medical laboratory science, dental hygiene, and nursing, to name a few.” The program does not apply to all undergraduate or graduate degree programs, however, the programs available are in areas that are considered well-paying and in high demand by the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics. Classes can be taken online or at an approved institution, and some classes are available on-site.
Interested in finishing your GED? You can earn your GED in person through local community colleges and educational centers, or you can earn your GED online through an approved adult education program. Amazon offers the GED Testing Service as a part of the Career Choice program.
