With the warm breeze of summertime keeping you busy with various activities with the kids, your online business may be slightly neglected. However, it doesn’t have to be affected. There is an array of promotion techniques that you may have not thought of to keep your home business thriving. Most of these techniques will let you enjoy your kids during the summer months and still make money from home.
Below I have 8 tips to help keep the cash flowing throughout the summer months. They are as follows and in no particular order:
Plan Ahead –Â You will need to take some careful thought way before your kids will be home for their summer break. If you are involved with article marketing; you will need to write “search engine friendly” article content for your niche that is geared up for summer. Start doing this two to three months before summer break. This way you’ll be prepared with good content that will keep your target market swarming your site.
Also, there is an excellent feature of most blogs that will let you pre-schedule your posts and various types of content. You can also schedule your social network material as well. For example you can easily set up your tweets for free with Hootsuite.com. They have free and paid options. And the program really is a no-brainer.
New Tech Gadgets –Â Along with the evolving, new technology today, there are many convenient, on-the-go Internet gadgets that will benefit your business. What’s not to love with all the new iPhones, tablets, iPads, laptops and so much more? Invest in them and use them to your advantage. It’s worth the investment! You can take these handy-dandy gadgets with you wherever your kids will lead you. Use them to stay on track with your business.
Multiple streams of income –Â Get involved in paid to read or paid survey sites. These paid to opportunities don’t take long at all. You could work them in the evening hours or while you watch your kids play at the park. Get those passive income opportunities started early in the year, that way they’ll be bringing you in extra cash (not just through summer months), but any slow time in your business.
Offline Advertising –Â Through the summer months, you will sure to be up and about with the kids going to various places; such as the park, library, church functions, and more. What a perfect time to pitch your business. Word of mouth is by far the most efficient offline advertising method there is. You can be spontaneous with it and mention it and talk about it whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Business cards and flyers are ideal for offline promotion as well. With being a busy work at home mom, you will be inclined to be surrounded by other moms, as well as friends. And no doubt that some of them will be unemployed and searching for ways to make money at home themselves. Be sure and be fully prepared to present your business to others.
Free Online Courses –Â Use the summer months to polish up your marketing skills with free online courses. There are many free ones on the net to choose from. A practical way to do this is to download them onto your Kindle, iPad, or iPhone and read them at the library while your kids are reading their favorites. Or perhaps you could be doing this in the evening or early in the morning while your kids are still sleeping. You can never be too marketing savvy! And this will greatly benefit your business.
Website updating or revamping –Â The summer would be the perfect time to do some serious website updating or totally re-designing. This would be ideal if your type of home business is particularly slow during spring and summer. You would have the time to devote to some festive web changes. You could do some “search engine friendly” updating as well. When you’re back full force come September, you will have a fresh new look and Google will treat you better as well.
Content Mills –Â I know some of us don’t like to think about writing for content mills. However, when money is tight and times are slow they do help line your wallets. Both TextBroker and Demand Studios are excellent choices, as well as many others. It doesn’t take long to write for most of these type of sites. At least, it’s something worth checking into.
Outsourcing –Â If you are really in a bind, outsourcing can be a viable way to keep your head above water while the kids are on summer break. You could hire for article writing, help with email tasks, website maintenance, newsletters; or whatever you may need help with. This would be ideal while you’re with the family vacationing as well.
One last thought: Your top priority as a mom would, of course, be your kids. Think ahead and do some special planning in order to keep your home business up and running and enjoy your little ones while they’re young. They deserve to have a nice break from school!

These are great tips. Planning ahead, to me, is top priority.
I struggle through the summer to keep up with my online work. And I tell myself to prepare but I rarely do. I am hoping that I get into a groove where my residual income helps me make it through the summer vacation months.

Great tips! I heartily agree with you on the content mills. It’s comforting to have those in your back pocket even if you don’t use them for regular monthly income. When you need it, you need it.
I coach people who have never written a thing for the web but they really want to learn how to make money writing. This is where I start them for an quick course in discipline (showing up to write), deadlines and working with an editor.

You stress an important point – using the latest tech gadgets. Of course, utilizing the wide range of new technological gadgets can provide businesses a competitive edge over their competition. Keeping track of the important things in business while on the go is extremely important today.

Thank you all for your comments. The summer months are important to your business just like the busy times. The money you can make with content mills is nothing to sneeze at. If you stay focused and keep at it, you can make some good money writing for the various article content sites. There are many on the web.
Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. 🙂

I tend to work less during the summer because I want to enjoy every moment I can with the kids while they’re on school break. I outsource more of my work in the summer, especially the tedious little tasks. I even pay my nephew to help me.
I have found the warmer months to be more inspirational – not sure why, maybe the fact I get out of my office more.

Hi Kathleen, =)
Your kids should definitely be your first priority, agree! You get a brand new perspective for your business when you take a break from your work; and you usually come back with fresh marketing and networking ideas. Ideas that make YOU stand out from the rest. 🙂 Thanks for your feedback.

Just like Kathleen, I also tend to work less in the summer months. I am trying an August experiment – working remotely from a beachside condo. So far it’s working great!
