In reply to Angie Nelson. I appreciate your response, Angie. I like to see how VA's are planning for their retirement. I know some Freelancers that haven't even thought about it. Scary, right? At least there are options out there for securing your nest egg. My spouse and I have plans to travel the states by RV when we retire at age 56. Just want to make sure we'll financially be able to. Thx!

In reply to Brenda Pace. Hi, Brenda. Retirement planning will be your responsibility as a freelancer. My husband and I both have IRAs that we set up with the help of a local financial planner. Depending on your specialty as a virtual assistant, the hourly rate can be anywhere from $25 to $150 per hour. With a full workload, you should be able to establish a nice retirement fund.

A great list of resources for us, thank you. The one thing that holds me back is my current employment (outside of the home) offers a retirement pension. How do VA’s prepare for retirement? Are the jobs paying enough to be able to stash money into your savings accounts?

so informative. i’d love to become a virtual assistant at some point. having the flexibility of working from home and during hours that i find most productive (not always conventional) would be lovely.
