Carol, Thank you so much for this post. I have recently started blogging as a way to share the remodel of my first home. I have read a lot of things recommending services WITH added monthly charges. While some of the charges are small, they do add up. I was happy to see someone say that you don’t HAVE to use these services. Thank you, I am looking forward to following your blog.

There are two other huge mistakes home business owners make:
1) They don’t manage their time well. Staying at home leads to numerous distractions and take the focus away from where it should be; your business.
2) They treat their home business as a hobby, rather than an actual business. Be process oriented and stay with it, making changes as necessary.

Those are only two, in addition to the important ones you noted in your post, but they have conspired to sink more than one home business, or at the very least, keep it from ever reaching its potential.

Absolutely Angie, limiting expenses is crucial for a start up home based business. I still only work with clients via Instant Message. No phone calls unless absolutely necessary.
