On November 3, Google announced their Fresh Update. This was an add-on to last year’s Google update “Caffeine”. The purpose of this algorithm update is to provide more “fresh” and relevant pages in the search results. After watching my own sites for the last two weeks, I have no doubt at this point that this Google update is good for online income and internet marketing.
While many bloggers got hit with the Google update Panda earlier this year. They did what most bloggers do, fixed what they could and moved on to building new sites to replace those that were beyond repair to rebuild their online income.
But, some freelance writers got hit even worse. Content mills were a main target with the Google update Panda, and many received a huge hit. Over the last 10 months, many have had their available work dry up to a point of being practically nonexistent. Many freelancers relied heavily on these sites and have seen some tough times this year as they try to replace these online income sources.
Others had personal clients that took a Panda hit. Rather than taking the route of many internet marketing bloggers, building up their online real estate, many of these personal clients decided to take a step back and do nothing while they waited for things to play out. This also hurt many of my freelance writing friends. Many of their personal clients dried up.
Hopefully, the freelance writing and internet marketing landscape is about to open back up. The Google Update “Fresh” was projected to affect up to 35% of search results. Panda was only 12%. My own sites that are regularly updated with fresh content have seen a big upswing in traffic over the past two weeks. If personal clients and content mills are paying attention right now, hopefully they are seeing the time to stall is over. It’s time to get moving and get new content up regularly and consistently.
If writing is your online income source, get out there. Make your clients aware of what is going on. Take advantage of this internet marketing opportunity before someone else does.
Other Friday News
VigLink – If you are a blogger and are not currently using VigLink, now is a good time to give it a shot. Many of you have emailed me in the past asking if VigLink will automatically insert links to merchant sites and specific products for you. Previously, they didn’t. You still needed to grab a link. They just changed that.
Link Insertion was just released to the public. This little algorithm will search out references to brands and products within your blog and automatically add the necessary links for you to potentially earn some affiliate income on those clicks. As is always the case, this will not override your personal affiliate links. If it sees your link, it will leave that alone. This only applies to unlinked, unaffiliated mentions. Hop over to VigLink to check out the news and get registered.
Awesome Content – I have followed Alice Seba for a very long time. She is a fellow content marketer and PLR producer. She released something very cool yesterday – 366 Tips. There will be 366 days in 2012. These nifty little bundles include one tip for each day of next year. You can use these tips for blog post ideas, load them up into your autoresponders, use them as your opt-in freebie, post a new tip each day to Facebook, she has even marked those under 140 characters so you can easily use those as Tweets. I can think of a dozen ways to use these, and they are super cheap for a year’s worth of content – A YEAR’S WORTH OF CONTENT. Amazing. Right now, there are three packs available: Internet Marketing, Crafting and Cooking. She has limited these in numbers. Only 150 will be sold. If you buy all three bundles, they are even cheaper. There is a lot more detail on her site, so hop over there and check them out.
Your turn! What exciting things are going on in your online world?

Hello Angie,
I think that this latest change in G’s algo is going to favour blogs – and especially blogs which are updated on a regular basis. So that will probably be good news for writers everywhere – bloggers are going to be hungry for content for sure.
One thing that I’m not sure about. Will Google consider comments as a fresh update? If so, then it will obviously be more important than ever to encourage comments on your blog posts.

I hope Google’s latest update will benefit those who post regular content. I just wish Big G would figure out what they want and stick to it.

And that is the crux of the matter. It is what Google wants, not the consumer, not the visitor, nor the website owner/builder. However, if you can afford it, you can be on page 1 of Google’s search results irrespective of your site’s SEO, a little bit of double dealing by Google leaving us with a two tier search system.

I just purchased the Internet Marketing tips! I really hope this helps me to be creative and to provide fresh content on my site. That is my biggest problem is thinking of creative material and actually wanting to write it since that is what I do for a living right now – write, write, write, lol. I really appreciate this post!

Katie, hopefully your benefits from the tips will be twofold. I know you are just getting your biz site set up. There may be a few things in there that you can use for yourself.
Second – balance…oy. I hear ya there. I have been having a difficult time myself lately writing for all of my sites plus trying to write more PLR, which I haven’t done in a very long time. Sometimes having some place to at least start, in this case your new tips, may help. At least you are not having to brainstorm new ideas as well.
