To create a successful blog it is imperative that you become comfortable with your numbers. Not to obsess over them, but to understand that there is a direct correlation between your daily activities and the success of your site. Your blog is a business. One that you have control over. You are not simply spinning the wheel of chance every morning.
The best way to become at ease with the business aspect and start connecting the dots is to track your stats on a monthly basis. You want to look beyond on the numbers however. Those numbers are directly affected by your day-to-day activities. The purpose of this monthly exercise is to start making the connection between specific events and marketing activities and their impact on your blog’s traffic and income.
Free Blog Stat Worksheet
I am making a simplified version of my monthly blog analysis worksheet available for you to download. It covers the basics that will help you identify what is working and things you can improve. Most of all, it should help you become more conscious of your activities and their impact.
To use this worksheet fill out the top portion at the beginning of the month with your blog’s name, the month, specific goals and the steps you will take to achieve them. Remember from my actionable goals post – goals are only wishes unless you have a plan.
The remainder of the worksheet will be completed at the month’s end. Here you will take a look at your Analytics, social networks and income. You will also take a minute to connect successes or failures with specific events that occurred. Keep these worksheets in a three-ring binder. Being able to quickly compare past time frames will help you identify trends so you can take advantage of or avoid them.
You should not feel overwhelmed by this process and it truly is not that time-consuming. Fifteen or twenty minutes at the beginning of each month to analyze what happened the month before and set goals going forward can make a significant impact on your future progress.
Do you analyze your blog stats on a monthly basis? Do you feel it has made a positive impact on your success?

This looks very useful! Thanks, Angie!
Great tool! Thanks!
“Goals are only wishes unless you have a plan.” I love that! Thanks so much for creating and sharing this worksheet. Some research and organization can go a long way in maximizing the return you get from the time you spend on your blog!
This is absolutely fantastic, Angie! For a while I started obsessing with the numbers, so much so I had to go on a hiatus because blogging just wasn’t fun anymore. I’ll have to give this worksheet a try and hopefully it’ll help me to put things into perspective without obsessing. Thanks for this!
Great! I needed this. I was addicted to numbers and blog stats. I hope this worksheet will help me.
Speaking as someone who sits with her stats on screen, pressing refresh like a demented loon maybe this handy download will get me more of a grip on things
Thanks!
I just recently of compiling some sort of To-Do-List by myself, but didn’t make the time to do it. Now I come here and see that worksheet, nice. To answer the questions at the end: When I was relatively new to blogging, and I checked my stats on an hourly basis, weekly after that, but always kind of chaotic. Now I’ll try to do an in-depth-analyzation every 1st of the month.
