If you have your own website or blog, there always is a concern with the duplicate content penalty. This term gets thrown around a lot and causes much paranoia. If you are building backlinks through article marketing, you may be wondering if there is a penalty for syndicated articles.
First things first, I am one of those paranoid people. Google tells us the only duplicate content penalty applies to duplicate content within the same site. (Ex. You have three separate pages and each of those pages has the same content.) But that’s how it works today, what about in the future? And frankly, Big G doesn’t always let us in on the real skinny. Therefore, I don’t put any duplicate content whatsoever on my sites. I also do not syndicate, or republish, content that is on my site anywhere else. I do not want to have to worry about it if things change. I will however syndicate articles that I use for article marketing.
I frequently publish articles on EzineArticles for backlinks. Those backlinks are great for boosting my search rankings, but they don’t do anything as far as earning money over there. And, I’m greedy. I can admit that. A few times per year I will go grab those articles, I know at that point they have already been indexed by the search engines, and I then republish them on Bukisa. Bukisa earns, but doesn’t allow backlinks.
The first round I syndicated didn’t do much for earning. However, in January Bukisa switched over to revenue sharing instead of paying for pageviews. This month those articles have been earning a nice little chunk of change. I plan on going and grabbing more of those articles on EZA to republish and see what happens.
Those two can duke it out in the search rankings without having any impact on my site. Whichever one wins is fine with me. I have the backlink regardless, and now I have the opportunity for either direct traffic from a click through on EZA or money from a click on Bukisa. Win-win!
Not every site will allow duplicate content. Not every person will have the same results. It is something to look into though if you are already article marketing.

It will be interesting to see how it works out for you.

That is interesting. Several things I have read tell you to post the same article at several different places. I agree with you. They should only be posted once. If it is something you are knowledgable about then you should have no problems writing different articles.

It’s better safe than sorry. Not always the easiest, but such is life.
I’ve had the fear of plagiarism beat into my head from years of schooling, so I write, or at least rewrite, everything no matter where it’s going!

I hear a lot of mixed reviews about Bukisa. I too worry about the duplicate content so I always rewrite everything.

Bukisa didn’t do squat for me for months. Now it’s rolling. I don’t think I will focus any extra attention over there, but I will see if I can ride the wave a bit longer.
I’ve never really looked into Bukisa, but again, it’s another site that I see all of you mention. I should stop by and check it out.

You learn something new every day. I didn’t know that about Bukiska (changing to revenue sharing) – there are a ton of sites to do that with.
The dupe content thing is not something to worry about: it is on a site-by-site basis according to Google. What you need to think about is simply do you want to risk your publishing status at a web 2.0 site.
All that means is looking into the publishing rules. Ezine doesn’t mind – you just need to be sure you publish under the same author name.
So if you publish as Jane on EZA, then Sara on Bukiska (or vice versa), that’s not going to get published since they run it through CopyScape to see if it’s been published.
But EZA doesn’t care if it has: they just don’t want to get sued. Now Hubpages is another story: it has to be unique or you can get banned (same with Buzzle)…
Anyway, one other thing: try Yahoo!’s Associated Content (Yahoo! owns them, I think it’s been re-named). You can do the same thing there and get mad traffic.

Thanks for the comment, James. I have accounts almost everywhere at this point. Bukisa seems to be giving me the biggest bang for my buck at the moment.
