Every so often, I catch myself doing something less-than-stellar on my blog. I may knowingly do it and refuse to change it because of laziness. I may have an AHA moment when I see a tweet or facebook update with something I hadn’t realized was annoying to blog readers. This is my little reminder list of blog writing tips.
Thesaurus
The Thesaurus is a writer’s best friend, even blog writers. If you find yourself using the same word repeatedly, take two seconds to find an alternative. You can even do an online search if you no longer have one lying around.
Open Links in a New Window
I used to think this was a personal pet peeve until I saw a discussion on Mommy Perks Facebook wall. Always set your in-text links to open in a new window. Readers often click links as they see them, but may not be ready to leave your blog yet.
SEO
This, for me, is often a matter of laziness and an essential blog writing tip. I won’t feel like taking two minutes to find keywords, so I don’t. A few days later I will check my stats and see previous posts getting amazing search engine traffic and wish I hadn’t been so lazy with others. It only takes a few minutes and is very well worth it. If you need SEO tips, here’s the method I use: SEO Article Writing: A How-To.
Double-Check Your Links
Take a minute to preview your post and click those in-text links. Don’t wait for a reader to inform you of a broken one, they may not. This also only takes a second.
What is on your blog writing tips reminder list for those lazy moments? What’s your lazy blogger pet peeves?

Great tips! The online Thesaurus is my best friend. I don’t think I could live without it.
Good information here! Thanks. I just dropped by from SITS to say hi; hope you have time to do the same.

Thanks for the tips! I am going to go read up more on SEO! Glad that link opens a new page:)
I agree – the broken links & those that close the current window are really annoying!! Great reminders
I love those tips. I’m also a fan of an online thesaurus and dictionary. I’ll have to check all my links to “open in a new window”. Thank you for sharing this!
