Picking up new skills is essential to being a successful home business owner. You will likely start out maintaining your website or blog, handling your marketing yourself, troubleshooting tech problems, and much more. It can be expensive to learn these skills in a formal setting. However, there are several sites that offer free online courses.
1. HP Learning Center provides free online computer training for everything from Microsoft Office products to using Bluetooth to Facebook to choosing a color scheme for your business marketing campaign. Whether your educational needs are for your business or family, there is something in here for everyone.
2. Codecademy provides interactive tutorials for learning how to code. Their free JavaScript tutorials will have you on your way to creating websites, apps and games.
3. W3Schools.com is one of my go-to resources for HTML. They also provide free tutorials for CSS, XML, SQL and many other programming languages that you may need to know from time to time if you maintain an online presence.
4. Alison provides interactive multimedia courseware for certification and standards-based learning. This site includes over 300 free online courses in Computers, IT Literacy, Languages, Health and Safety and Liberal Arts and Sciences. All these courses are available for free.
5. Lynda.com. offers 1,225 online courses. There are free video tutorials available for each course, but you will need to be a subscriber ($25 per month) for access to the full learning courses. Their courses cover 3D & animation, audio, business, design, developer, home computing, photography, video, and web & interactive. 6. VTC is another subscription site that offers a limited free version. This one specializes in computer software training. Free trial members have access to the first 3 chapters of each course. The full training modules are available for $30 for one month access.
