In just a few short days (September 1), Passionfruit Ads will begin charging those running their ad platform a flat monthly or yearly fee. Unlike the previous model that simply took a cut off the top of ad spots sold, bloggers will now need to pay $9 per month or $50 per year to use their ad management system. That may be a blow for those already struggling to fill their ad space. If you are looking for alternatives, here are four worthy competitors to consider.
BuySellAds – BSA has been the marketplace of choice for The Work at Home Wife for a very long time. I’m picky with both the type of ads I prefer and the kind of advertisers I will accept. Of all of the options I have tried, this one has been most profitable for me. They do take a 25% commission however and acceptance into the network can be difficult. I do turn down tons of “get rich quick” stuff every month but it is worth a shot if you are looking for a pay-as-sell model. You can request payment by PayPal with a $20 minimum.
Adproval – This is the new kid on the block and appears to follow a model extremely similar to Passionfruit Ads previous setup. They allow for free ad swaps and take only 10% of paid transactions. The company uses Amazon Payments for distributing funds instantly. Offer ads, reviews, sponsored posts, social media shout outs and more. (I’m definitely going to check this one out for myself!)
WP125 – This free WordPress plugin is an easy solution for those looking to sell only 125×125 banner ads. Though the process isn’t entirely automated, you will need to add purchases manually, WP125 will automatically remove ads after a specified period of time (ex. 30 days). Click tracking is also available though there is known conflicts with some caching plugins. It is a viable solution for small bloggers however, and one I personally used way back in the day.
OIO Publisher – This is a paid alternative, but it is a one-time purchase only. I use OIO Publisher to manage the ad space on TheBestDirectSalesCompanies.com and have been nothing but pleased for the almost two years I’ve had it up. You can offer advertisers display ads of any size or placement, sponsored posts, intext links and more. The entire process is automated though you can choose to manually approve ads before they are displayed. Reminders and stats are emailed to the advertiser without any further action on your part. The cost is $47, but you pay only once and they never take a commission of sales. Advertiser payments are made directly to you and never even touch OIO’s hands. Take $10 off with code RAINBOW-WAH.
